Pick Up a Toaster with Your Mobile: Dixons' New Offer

LONDONERS will be able to take home a kettle, coffee machine or Nutribullet from a mobile-phones shop for the first time from today as Currys PC World shoppers take advantage of its owners' merger with Carphone Warehouse.

Dixons Carphone, the retail giant formed by last year's merger between the electricals and phones chains, has upped the pressure on rival Argos with a pilot which allows Currys PC World's online shoppers to pick up their purchases in Carphone's shops.

The four-month trial, limited to smaller appliances, has begun in 22 stores around London, Hertfordshire and in Canterbury. Shoppers who order online by 5pm will be able to pick up the goods 24 hours later.

The retailer has targeted commuter hubs where time-pressed shoppers who rarely visit Currys PC World shops, primarily in out-of-town retail parks, can quickly pick up items locally.

If the pilot is successful, it may be used in the 410 of Carphone's 700 stores out of easy reach of a Currys. …
