Unions Step Up to Aurizon Job Cuts, Entitlements

A JOB-axing drive had Rockhampton Aurizon employees shaking in their boots yesterday as they stood on the footpath before their shift and shared their concerns with union bosses.

While 40 jobs are set to face the chopping block in the coming weeks, the "anxious" workforce is in the dark as to who will be sent packing first.

The move by the railway company has employees uncertain of future job security and morale at an all-time low as more cuts are set for the future.

But while the future of jobs at the company is uncertain, those who are sent home will have certainty in their redundancy entitlements.

Electrical Trades Union state organiser Bill Bijoux said the unions would speak on behalf of the employees in seeking clarity on the future of jobs and redundancy entitlements at Aurizon.

"We know there is no chance of us preventing this from happening but we are trying to get some consultation and they are not giving us a great amount of information into what sort of timeframe it will happen in," Mr Bijoux said. …
