HOCKEY Queensland says Bundaberg getting a full-time coach in the area to develop juniors will further help the association bounce back from the devastating floods in 2013.

On a tour to Bundaberg this week to assess how the association is going, and to teach juniors and seniors a Level One course in coaching, regional program manager of Hockey QLD Barry Vohland was impressed about how the region has recovered from the floods.

The Hinkler Park's artificial turf was destroyed in the 2013 floods, with a new surface and around $700,000 needed in funding to get the association back on its feet.

Now with the new surface, and people coming back to the club, Vohland was surprised with the quality of the juniors.

"We've had good players come from Bundaberg before and the talent I saw this week shows they will still continue to come in the future," he said.

"It compares well to other regional towns but the quantity of players is down. …
