End of an Era as Tyra Says Tara to Top Model

IT'S the show that taught us how to 'smize' (smile with your eyes), how to be fierce, how to love our small boobs, big bottoms, freckles and flaws. But after 22 series, America's Next Top Model is coming to an end.

Its spin-off Britain's Next Top Model will be hitting our screens in 2016 with Abbey Clancey (who first found fame on the show) as head judge but across the Atlantic TV execs are calling time on the format amid falling ratings.

Its creator and presenter Tyra Banks - who has been with the show for 12 years - announced on Instagram this week that this current series will be the last.

"Thinking #ANTM22 should be our last cycle," 41-year-old Tyra wrote. "I truly believe it's time. May your pics be forever fierce.

Keep on Smizing!" It was hard not to love ANTM.

A cacophony of catfights and cosmetics, every series was pretty much the same but it was addictive viewing coming along when reality TV was still in its infancy.

|Model Tyra Picture: Back then the judges were the "crazy" ones, not the contestants. The original panel saw Tyra joined by selfproclaimed "world's first supermodel" Janice Dickinson, stylist Beau Quillan (ok I didn't know that one either) and Baby Phat fashion designer/diva Kimora Lee Simmons.

Over the years judges have included Vogue editor-at-large Andre Talley, Twiggy and - my favourite - the runway coach J Alexander or Miss J.

Girlfriend, there ain't a woman alive who can walk better than that man can in heels!

The show was great fun - camp and cut-throat at the same time.

The episode where the girls were taken to get their makeovers was must-see TV. A bit cruel yes but unmissable. Invariably it ended with one of the beauty queen types weeping as her long, blonde locks were shorn into a Mia Farrow crop.

The best thing about ANTM though was always Tyra. …
