Middle Order Stability Helps Coutts

COUTTS Crossing were able to continue on the foundations laid last weekend by opening batsman Bill North to claim a first innings victory over Westlawn in Premier League.

But it was not without its shaky moments.

In the opening over of the day North, who had scored a quickfire 38 the week before, was trapped in front of the stumps by Westlawn captain Pat Vidler.

Vidler then went on to claim the wicket of Coutts captain Luke Cox two overs later which sent nerves through the Coutts camp.

"The only thing we were worried about was if we lost early wickets which is what happened," Cox said.

"But luckily we had Woodsy [Nick Woods], Ryan [Cotten] and Isreal [Simpson] come in and steady the innings. All three of them batted really well in the middle of the innings."

Coutts got themselves to 61 runs ahead before they decided to put Westlawn back into bat in the hope of claiming an outright victory. …
