Help on the Frontline; Ambulance Station to Come to Kenilworth

FOR almost 15 years, a small but dedicated team of volunteer first responders based in Kenilworth have never missed a call.

They are first on the scene of many car accidents, farming injuries, heart attacks and other emergencies, offering basic first aid and a reassuring presence until the ambulance arrives.

Last year they responded to more than 400 call-outs, which proved the magic number to warrant the commission of an ambulance station in Kenilworth.

The funding for early design works on the Kenilworth and Yandina ambulance stations was announced in the State Budget in July.

First responder Linda Green said the news was very exciting for volunteers who have lobbied for the station for many years.

"We're pretty pleased, it's taken us a long time," she said.

"By keeping statistics we've been able to prove we need one here."

Ms Green said the first responders would continue to support the single-officer station but their workload would be halved. …
