Campbell Sets Pace for Cup Final Round

RACING: Warwick racer Matt Campbell is holding on to his hopes of a top-three finish in the Porsche Carrera Cup after setting a blistering pace in the second practice session at the Gold Coast 600.

Campbell set the fastest lap time in practice to outpace competition leaders Nick Foster, Steven Richards and David Russell.

Currently sitting in fifth place overall, Campbell's practice time of 1 minute 12.7620 seconds put him ahead of overall leader Nick Foster who finished third in the practice rounds.

David Russell placed second in the practice rounds with a time of 1 minute 12.8204.Campbell claimed his first outright round victory at Bathurst on October 11 to push his claim for a top three finish at the end of the season.

The Surfers Paradise Street Circuit is the last of eight rounds in the Carrera Challenge, with a close battle at the top of the table.

On 680 competition points, Campbell has a chance of catching third-placed David Russell and fourth-placed Craig Biard who sit on 730 and 728 competition points respectively. …
