The Bruce Highway has claimed almost one third of all lives lost on Rockhampton region roads over about 14 years.

The Bulletin asked readers yesterday: What do you think are the main causes of fatal accidents on Central Queensland roads?

David Couper - The number of times you get stuck behind cars travelling 5 to 10 kms below the speed limit, only for them to suddenly accelerate to 100kph+ in overtaking lanes is what causes drivers to take chances to pass in spots they probably shouldn't.

Nathan Grindlay - Better road construction is needed and there needs without a doubt to be at least a four lane highway around Australia.

Solitaire Schloss - People not driving to the road conditions..... it takes skill to get corrugation in the bitumen..... I drive heaps and our roads are in worse condition then those on some sections toward the south of Qld... But believe me when I say there are worse condition roads all over the place that get just as much traffic as we do. …
