A 55-YEAR-OLD man who punched a woman so hard he broke her sternum and stomped on another woman's head after forcing his way into her home has been allowed to walk free on parole.

Colin James Cooper, of Gin Gin, pleaded guilty in Maryborough District Court to two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm as well as stealing and breaking and entering.

The court heard the man had been drinking with the first victim at the Tattersalls Hotel in Maryborough on January 13, 2013 when they retired to a room after the bar had closed.

During the night, the pair argued and the woman, who was heavily intoxicated, punched him in the face twice.

Cooper retaliated with a punch to the chest which was so hard, he broke her sternum.

In the second incident, Cooper forced his way into a Bundaberg woman's home on June 16, 2013 punching her to the ground before kicking her repeatedly in the chest area.

That woman was left with two broken ribs and considerable bruising to her torso and face. …
