Fears over Resort Plan; Lack of Consultation Concerns Curtis Island Local

HOLLYWOOD luxury resort developer Tim Reigal's plan to build a five-star luxury resort at Black Head has already got one Curtis Island local offside.

Mr Reigal's company Queensland Resort Enterprise got final approvals from State and local governments to start construction on the new resort in December.

The company is just awaiting final clearance from the Federal Department of Environment, which it expects to get next week.

While a lot of the island's residents are keeping quiet for now, Allan Shaw said he had serious concerns over the suitability of the resort on the rest of the island.

"This is not the first time they have tried to build the resort on the island and my concern is that they will go and mess it up," he said.

According to Mr Shaw the site at Turtle St Beach has not recovered from when Mr Reigal last tried to develop the land two years ago.

He said vegetation was destroyed and a saltwater creek was left at risk of contamination because proper fencing had not been put in place. …
