Sharp Exits after U-Turn at Ebac

FORMER CBI leader Dianne Sharp says she was "disappointed" to part ways with Ebac when company founder John Elliott decided he was not ready to relinquish the reins.

Mrs Sharp was lured away from her role as CBI regional director to join managing director Pamela Petty at Ebac as chief executive in June.

Her previous 20 years of experience within manufacturing put her in the frame for the role as the Newton Ayclife firm, which manufactures freezers, watercoolers and dehumidifers, geared up to launch a new washing machine line.

However, while chairman John Elliot had been looking to take a step back from the business, he found he was still keen to play a pivotal part in the business, meaning Mrs Sharp had to part company with the firm.

Mrs Sharp said she was disappointed to part ways with the Newton Aycliffe business, but that it was ultimately proving to be a good move, and that she and the firm's directors had parted on good terms.

She has now launched her own consultancy DSK Straight Forward, which has already seen her apply her wealth of knowledge within the region's business community to work with a range of companies.

Mrs Sharp said: "I've known John and Pamela for a long time, so yes, I was disappointed, but I wasn't surprised. It is a shame.

"I always knew going in that it was potentially a risk, because John saying he was definitely stepping away from the business and then really stepping away are not always going to be the same thing.

"He has put so much into the business over 40 years that I don't think he'd know who he was if he had stepped away.

"He was not ready for that loss of control and he needed to step back in for his own sake.

"We parted on very good terms, genuinely, and there are no hard feelings at all. …
