Mayor Eyes $3M Windfall; Port Macquarie PCYC Dispute Could Open Door for Clarence Valley

FOR the first time since June 2012, the Clarence Valley can dream about getting a PCYC.

Clarence Valley Mayor Richie Williamson said the region could secure the funding it missed out on three years ago.

Cr Williamson said about $3million funding for a PCYC could be freed up because of a dispute about locating a proposed PCYC in the Port Macquarie Indoor Sports Centre.

The Port Macquarie Hastings Shire Council has decided to press ahead with the upgrade of the centre, matching a Federal Government grant, but without the State Government and PCYC funding.

"If Port Macquarie doesn't want a PCYC, then we'll put our hand up for one," Cr Williamson said.

"It's something our community has shown it wants and has demonstrated it needs."

Cr Williamson said a news report had drawn his attention to the opportunity.

"There was State Government funding of $2.5million, plus other funding, but if they don't use it then it will be taken back," he said. …
