Central Queensland's Top Cop Bids Farewell

OVERSEEING an area stretching from north of Mackay to the Sunshine Coast isn't an easy task.

There are about one million people within the Central Region, and 92 police stations covering the area. But two and a half years ago, Assistant Commissioner Mike Condon took on the role.

He aimed to smoothly amalgamate two police regions as Queensland's eight police districts were reduced to five, to help the community and police work together and build confidence.

Now Assistant Commissioner Condon is preparing to move into a new role as the Assistant Commissioner of Operations Support Command in Brisbane.

Prior to his role in Rockhampton, Assistant Commissioner Condon was a Brisbane-based homicide squad boss who oversaw the Daniel Morcombe case.

In his time in the region, there's been a reduction in almost all Central Region's crime statistics, as well as fewer road fatalities and serious accidents. …
