CHEICK Tiote has shrugged off claims that he was a "poisonous" influence in the dressing room at Newcastle United.

And the United midfield battler insists he is focused on playing a big part in the Magpies' Premier League revival in the weeks ahead.

During Newcastle's poor start to the Steve McClaren era, Tiote was singled out as a "bad egg" behind the scenes on Sky Sports show Sunday Supplement back in September.

However, speaking about the programme Turn to Page 61 FROM BACK PAGE for the first time, Tiote, now back in the team at United, told the Chronicle: "It didn't affect me, I know myself that I didn't do anything bad.

"Everybody at the club and my partner knows that.

"I just do my best for the team, that is the most important thing.

"All I want is to see the team go forward and win games.

"What people say in the media, I just put that to one side - it doesn't matter."

Tiote says he doesn't always read newspapers and instead prefers to focus on his job in the Newcastle engine room. …
