MARE'S DESTINY; Trainer Says Six-Year-Old Is Thriving This Preparation

A SPRINT on grass on her home track at Ballina on Tuesday convinced trainer Steven Phelps that Destiny's Lass was ready to return to battle on the race track.

The six-year-old mare by Natural Destiny will resume from a 31-day let-up in the Bangalow Hotel Benchmark 60 Hcp (1005m) at Ballina today.

Destiny's Lass is shooting for three successive wins.

"The idea after her last win was to give her a bit of time off," Phelps said.

"It was by design. I don't do much with her in between runs anyhow, I do very little with her.

"She had a sprint up on the grass on Tuesday and there was plenty left in her.

"She's as good as gold. She's a different mare this preparation."

Phelps said hardly anything went right for the mare last campaign but this time around everything was different.

"She had a bad time in the spelling paddock last time," Phelps said.

"I was always behind the eight-ball with her. …
