New Boss Takes Positives from Loss

ANNAN ATHLETIC 1 BERWICK RANGERS 0 NEW Berwick boss John Coughlin was left to reflect on what might have been after his side lost at league leaders Annan on Saturday, writes KEITH HAMBLIN.

H said: "We had a lot of the ball and got in quite a few efforts on goal but their goalkeeper (Jordan Hart) was in inspired form - he kept them in the game with a string of saves."

It was Coughlin's first match in charge after taking over from previous boss Colin Cameron at Shielfield.

The teams met in the Scottish Cup just three weeks earlier, when Annan won 4-1. Yet this was a much closer match with the winning goal not coming until the 81st minute when substitute Stuart McColm fired an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.

Earlier in the game Blair Henderson was unfortunate when he saw a shot hit a post but in general it was Hart who kept Rangers at bay, denying Henderson, Michael McKenna, David Banjo and Graeme Beveridge. …
