HE'S on a mission to fight for more homes and training for veteran soldiers on civvy street.

But ex-squaddie Jack Lamb is already changing lives as his campaign gathers momentum. Jack brought Britain to tears when he appeared on TVs DIY SOS with Princes William and Harry earlier last month.

Suffering a brain injury after being shot by the Taliban in Afghanistan, Jack symbolised our boys who return home heroes, but are left to struggle after leaving the forces.

The 22-year-old starred on the first instalment of the BBC1 hit Homes for Veterans - a two part special focusing on presenter Nick Knowles and his team's efforts to build a veterans' village in Manchester for British heroes to help them re-adjust to life outside of the armed forces.

Jack, of Jarrow, South Tyneside, vowed to use his TV appearance to help transform derelict homes in the North East for his army pals and wanted to go to the top to help him in his cause.

And he has persuaded Jarrow MP Stephen Hepburn to back him and urge South Tyneside Council to turn derelict homes into housing for war veterans.

But as he fights for victory, caring Jack has already 'rescued' Jo Telford who is suffering from anxiety, depression and a break-up from her husband of more than 23 years of marriage.

He has taken her on as his righthand girl to help him with his administration tasks as his campaign grows.

"He is such a lovely guy," said Jo, 47, of Low Fell, Gateshead. "He has changed my life, I am so grateful to him, he has helped me in so many ways and given me a purpose in live, I can't thank him enough."

Mum-of-two Jo has suffered anxi-ety from being a teenager and more latterly from depression. She split with her husband, who was a policeman in the RAF, and has been on a downward spiral. …
