Elderly Poppy Seller Still Had Collection Tins during Mugging

DETECTIVES hunting a thug who left a poppy seller fighting for life in a street mugging today revealed she still had her collection tins when assaulted.

Police are issuing a new appeal to help trace the man who attacked 70-year-old Marian Botos. He had failed to spot she had the tins full of change and instead took her handbag containing just a few pounds, wrestling with her for a few seconds before running off.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Chalmers said: "She is a feisty lady and very fit for her age and at first she would not let go of the bag strap.

"There was a lot of pushing and pulling before she let go and fell backwards hitting the back of her head."

Ms Botos suffered severe head injuries and remains critically ill in hospital nearly 10 days after the attack on the doorstep of her home in Curzon Avenue, Stanmore. Police today released an image of a similar style handbag saying they urgently need to trace the stolen item. …
