Swept to Glory; McLennan Enjoys Success in His First Season as Minnie Water Surf Boat Captain

THE Minnie Water-Wooli Surf Lifesaving Club made their long awaited return to North Coast Surf Boat Series this year and with a hungry Matt McLennan at the helm for the first time they are looking strong.

McLennan is following a family legacy of surf boat competitors, with his father Rob rowing on his team and late grandfather Ted a founding member of the Red Rock SLSC.

For McLennan it was an honour to take the reins at the Minnie Water-Wooli club.

"This is my first go around as a captain and coach," McLennan said. "I have been involved in Surf Lifesaving since I was six years old and ever since I was a kid I have wanted to be a surf boat sweep.

"It is a pretty big part of my journey as a surf lifesaver."

But the job did not come without its trials and tribulations, after McLennan was thrown into it on his own.

"It has its challenges, it sort of took a little bit to get me going," he said. …
