THE first thing I was told when I moved to the Clarence Valley was not to walk under the Grafton Bridge at night time.

I was also told to find a friend with a boat ASAP to take full advantage of the river.

I didn't quite find that friend with a wake boat, but I did stumble across an apartment right on the Clarence with a pontoon and Jacaranda tree in my backyard - what a welcome to Grafton!

As for the walking under the bridge, I never actually came across the need to, but I don't think it's quite as scary as I was lead to believe.

Six months later I moved to Yamba where I absolutely fell in love with the town, its beaches and its people and lived there for the past two years. But as they say, opportunity calls and I am off again, this time leaving The Daily Examiner and the gorgeous Clarence Valley behind to jump ships to my hometown paper, the Gold Coast Bulletin. …
