BORN in Kentucky and raised in Bundaberg, Waterview Distilling Company's latest bourbon has a dual citizenship and a unique taste to match.

The company's founder Matthew Drane said he travelled to Kentucky to conduct product development there while proper licences were being issued for the company, when the idea for Bundtucky was born.

"Bundtucky is a bourbon that was made in America and aged in Australia," he said.

"The blend is the first American-made, Australian-aged bourbon."

Mr Drane said the company had to prove it could make the bourbon yet maintain its origin status when it was brought to Bundaberg.

For bourbon to be bourbon it must be made in America and distilled from grains made up of at least 51% corn.

"Aging it in Bundaberg gives it a different profile," he said.

"It's part of the family but there's that subtle difference tropical aging brings.

"Right now all the bourbon barrels in Kentucky would be covered in snow. …
