LET'S discuss stretching.

It's not the most exciting of topics, but for the aging person, it should be.

Stretching is essential if we want to go into the 'elderly' trimester of our lives with a sprightly gait as we push along our walking frames.

Many of us seniors might think we're diligent because we walk half an hour every morning, but who stretches before said walk?

My stiff muscles as I make my sluggish way from the bed to the bathroom each morning are sending me protesting signals: 'you haven't stretched in years, old girl, get to it'.

So I've begun stretching - not as easy as it sounds.

First came the essential Googling to find out which stretches are safe and best suited for a woman of a certain age who hasn't touched her toes since 1979.

There is plenty of information out there, even if some of it is a tad confusing.

Example: "When performing knee bends, don't drop your buttocks below the level of your knees."
