Drunken Dad Swings Haymaker at Cop

THE ugly stench of cowardly domestic violence wafts through the door at Gladstone Magistrates Court with regularity - yet again another father has revealed how he was too "grossly" drunk to recall his nasty behaviour towards his spouse and police.

The 29-year-old man pleaded guilty to breaching a Domestic Violence Order at Tannum Sands; obstructing police; and serious assault of a police officer when intoxicated.

"I will not be touching it (alcohol) again your honour," the man assured Magistrate Robert Walker at the end of court proceedings.

His barrister Tom Polley explained he was well educated with a good job and from a good household.

He said the man had been drinking heavily after access to his children from a previous relationship was denied to him and this led to depression.

Mr Polley said the man wanted to rehabilitate himself after getting his first taste of a jail cell.

"He was intoxicated to the point that he has no recollection of events. …
