IT would be easy to be the editor of the Queensland Times and walk down the middle of the street on every issue.

Never offer criticism, make no comments on what you really believe and try to keep everyone happy.

Of course you wouldn't survive long, because readers would soon know, all you were out to do was to please the world and make no enemies.

A week rarely goes by when I don't get a call from someone who has just appeared in Ipswich court asking that their name not be mentioned.

It would be easy to say, "okay we won't upset you" - but of course you can't.

This all comes with the territory of being an editor of a daily paper.

At the moment I am not the flavour of the month with Bundamba MP Jo-Ann Miller's many supporters.

In fact one gentleman marched into the QT office to give me some stern advice about leaving town on the next bus. I'm like everyone; I don't enjoy criticism, but as an editor you have to just grit your teeth and take it. …
