Campus Will Have Cash; Mayor Vows to Find Funds for New Uni

MORETON Bay Mayor Allan Sutherland has "no doubt" the new University of the Sunshine Coast southern campus at Petrie will be funded.

With 2020 pencilled in as the opening time for the new, fully fledged campus, Cr Sutherland said it was just a matter of taking the time to work out the best funding option for the project, with a raft of opportunities still to be explored.

He also moved to allay fears there would be any blowback on Moreton Bay Regional Council ratepayers if federal funding could not be secured.

"I wouldn't have gone into this journey if I'd expected the ratepayers to pay for the university," Cr Sutherland said.

A group determined to see local governance restored was concerned about the funding plans for the new USC campus in Petrie.

Basil Jeffreys, founder and patron of Reclaim Caboolture Shire Inc, said residents in the northern parts of the region could suffer if the new facility, expected to eventually host 10,000 students by 2030, could not be funded by the Commonwealth. …
