WITH world leaders including Australia's Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull gathered in Paris for the United Nations climate change talks, hopes are high from environmental groups the negotiations will lead to positive results.

Mr Turnbull has ruled out a reduction to fossil fuel subsidies, a move welcomed by the Nationals.

The Federal Government has pledged $1 billion over five years to the Green Climate Fund, but Clarence Valley Conservation Coalition honorary secretary Leonie Blain said it was not enough.

"We aren't doing our part now, and we should be doing more," Ms Blain said.

"It would be wonderful if more of our politicians looked at the big picture, in particular in relation to coal mining," she said.

"It's very sad that government at state and federal level are happy to see big coal mines opening, when burning fossil fuels are a big part of the problem.

"It seems a majority of nations have gone to Paris with the determination to get a settlement, but it's up to the advanced nations to do their bit. …
