AFTER 12 long and hairy years of growing his beard John "Gilly" Gill is set to chop it all off this Saturday for Movember.

The campaign to get Gilly to chop his award-winning beard off was started by his son's partner, Jess Munster, and together they've raised $12,000.

The pair currently sits in 18th on the Australia-wide Mo Heroes leader board and by Saturday they hope to break into the top 10.

Reluctant to part ways with his ZZ Top-style beard, Gilly relented to Jess's charms under one condition: he would chop it off only if they could raise $1000 for every year he's had it.

"It's like being on death row," he said. "That's 12 years of beard growing down the chute.

"Nobody knows who Gilly is.

"They just know the guy with the beard."

Jess has been involved with Movember for three years. …
