All Should Share the Cuts Burden

Article excerpt

I HAVE just read my copy of The Gazette in which your reporter Mike Blackburn writes about the cuts that could take place in the New Year (01.12.15). Lollipop ladies could lose the job of seeing our children across some of the most heavily congested roads in Middlesbrough.

I hope the 20p to use the lavatories at Middlesbrough bus station will go towards cleaning them, because they are a disgrace.

A 2% rise in council tax is an odds-on certainty. The bus lane fines on Newport Road will rake in money from the already hard-pressed motorist.

A charge of an extra 10p on parking? People have just started to use the town again due to the free parking hours implemented, now it looks as though they will be re-instated along with this rise. The school crossing on Marton Road used by St Joseph's pupils must be one of the most dangerous in the town, bearing in mind the amount of constant traffic there. The extra allowances claimed by councillors in this town is totally unacceptable bearing in mind our financial situation.

The council tax rises year on year, we have cuts to services now year on year, but the amount of money in extras being claimed never seems to go down. …
