69-22 MP's voted in favour of the bill on Thursday.

Opposition leader Lawrence Springborg was one of 20 LNP members who voted against the bill.

MEMBERS of the gay and transgender community are celebrating the reintroduction of civil-partnership ceremonies into Queensland and say the decision was a "step in the right direction towards marriage equality".

The amendment to restore the same-sex union in Queensland was passed on Thursday, after it was scrapped by the LNP Government in 2012, giving members of the LGBTIQ community an option to legally commit to their partners.

Fraser Gays coordinator Sally Cripps said most of the community felt it was the start of positive changes.

"We're all celebrating and it's fantastic," Sally said.

"It's a good step in the right direction but there's a lot more that needs to be followed through now."

She said the ceremonies are an important part of showing other people in society that members of the LGBTIQ community were "normal human beings". …
