THEY came, they saw and they conquered.

Three talented Gladstone softball players mixed it with the best in the recent Pacific School Games held in Adelaide with Michael Ludkin's winning gold with the under-17 Queensland team at the recent Pacific School Games while Annamonet Massey represented the Sunshine State's under-12 girl's team that won bronze.

The third success story was the effort of Nick Gerhmann whose team won the silver medal for Queensland's under-12 team.

Ludkin led Queensland to a mighty performance in the under-17 boys' category where they won nine games out of 10 to finish above New South Wales who they defeated in the grand final 5-1.

It was Queensland's second-successive title after winning it last year and the team only managed six errors throughout the 10 matches that they played in.

Queensland began their campaign with a 9-5 against the Blues.

With an international flavour in the competition that featured the ACT, Victoria and South Australia, India was a part of the mix.

However they were given a lesson in softball as Queensland went on a 7-0 rampage in round two.

Victoria was next and the Big V never was in it as the boys from the Sunshine state handed them a 22-1 drubbing. …
