Bindi Eyes Big Honour; Key to the City and to Our Hearts

BINDI Irwin has potentially become the first owner of the key to the Sunshine Coast.

After her American Dancing with the Stars heroics, Bindi was presented with the giant key at Australia Zoo by Mayor Mark Jamieson.

While Cr Jamieson said he believed the Coast's Jessica Watson, who sailed solo around the world aged 16 may have been the first local to receive the honour, the council couldn't confirm this was the case.

After much scrounging around through the archives, a Sunshine Coast Council spokeswoman found no trace of any other recipients of the key.

"I've just spoken to the people at Nambour, their archives go back to 1983 and there's nothing there," she said.

"We really can't confirm (if anyone else has received a key), someone said Grant Kenny may have received one, but it's all just a rumbling (rumour).

"It's clearly very rare and special for Bindi to receive one."

Cr Jamieson expressed his pride at the Sunshine Coast export. …
