WE are extremely disappointed that planning permission for the proposed PS7m development of Seaton Burn Welfare has expired.

Our thanks to the local developer, who has worked hard with the support of North Tyneside Council to try to transform this former colliery sports ground into a golf driving range with upgraded facilities for the football, cricket and bowling clubs that have a long and proud tradition of playing there.

We recognise that with less money available it has not been possible to renew any promises for the future, although money has been spent on all the legal, community and planning agreements and anyone further interested would not have to start from the beginning.

As much was dependent on this investment, it is true to say that no other efforts have been made either by the council or the clubs themselves to encourage other investment in the facilities, so little has been spent for about 10 years, except on routine maintenance. …
