Keep Looking When Cooking This Festive Season

CLARENCE Valley firefighters are urging people to take extra care when cooking this festive season as nearly half of all home fires start in the kitchen.

"It's that time of year again when we spend time with family and friends and enjoy a bit of festive cheer," Grafton Fire Station commander Garry Reardon said.

"While you enjoy the precious moments with friends and family that this season brings, please don't be complacent. Fires can and do happen."

Mr Reardon said firefighters were very busy at this time of year.

"All too often, the holidays can result in physical, financial and emotional disaster, especially if festive feasts go awry," he said.

'It is easy to get distracted while you are in the kitchen, but it is really important to keep looking when cooking and never leave cooking unattended - even for a moment."
