ROB Elliot feels the only way is up for Newcastle United - and the Toon star has insisted the Magpies do have the quality to kick on this season.

The Magpies keeper was in superb form in United's 2-1 win at White Hart Lane as he made seven saves to keep title-challenging Tottenham Hotspur at bay.

Elliot has proved to be a revelation since replacing injured Tim Krul between the posts and picked up the Sky Sports man of the match at Spurs.

Speaking after the win in the capital, Elliot said: "It was euphoric.

"The fans have been unbelievable to be fair, they have stuck with us.

"But we have shown the character to get through it. The lads were outstanding - all 14 of them, including the lads who came on to win the game - and that's what we need.

"Like last week (after Liverpool) we need to make sure we don't take our foot off the gas. That's how we need to be every week."

Elliot's saves earned him the plaudits, with Thierry Henry and David Moyes offering the Ireland keeper high praise after the game. …
