OVER THE PAST five years Mr Barrett (PE Coordinator), has been helping students at Monkseaton Middle School raise almost PS10,000 for St. Oswalds Hospice through participating in the Junior Great North Run.

Mr Barrett has been encouraging students to take part in this event to raise money for a good cause for almost five years. Every September, he enters a team of runners who are as committed to raising money for charity as he is. They have run in sunshine and the rain and represented our school fantastically.

St Oswald's, who are based in Gosforth, are a charity who provide hospice care for people who are very ill.

Nearly 150 pupils have taken part in the Junior Great North Run over the years, motivated by their aim to raise PS10,000.

Mr Barrett said that he chose St Oswald's Hospice because he always runs the Great North Run and he wanted to help those who need it but have fun at the same time. …
