Everyone Can Relate to Citizen Khan, Says Creator of Wembley-Bound Show

THE creator of BBC sitcom Citizen Khan today told how he believes the show is breaking down stereotypes as he prepares to take a live stage version to one of London's biggest venues.

Adil Ray's comedy about a hapless "community leader" will be at Wembley Arena next May before performances in Birmingham and Manchester. Tickets for Citizen Khan: They All Know Me! go on sale today. Ray, who co-writes the show and plays Mr Khan, said: "It's ridiculous. I never thought I'd be playing Wembley. But I think it will really work. We already film the programme in front of a live audience and some of the best bits are when I get among the audience.

"We get a very mixed audience, from middle-class, white English to people from the mosque who look like Mr Khan, girls in hijabs, and an Eastern European contingent who could totally relate to the immigrant experience."

After four series in a primetime evening slot, the 90-minute stage version will add song and dance to the mix of slapstick and gentle comedy. …
