NEW YORK | Derrick Henry was awarded the Heisman Trophy Saturday night, capping a record-setting season for the University of Alabama running back and former Yulee High star. Henry, who set the national high school rushing record at Yulee and surpassed Herschel Walker's long-standing SEC single-season rushing mark two weeks ago, won a vote over two other finalists: Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey and Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson. "I'm just so thankful,' Henry said after accepting the award. "It's an honor just to be here." Henry, a junior, isn't done yet. Alabama will play in the Cotton Bowl as part of the four-team College Football Playoff on Dec. 31.
