PROOF of the rich talent emerging from North Coastal Zone cricket has been delivered by selectors choosing players for three representative teams.

Heading the list are young Sawtell stars Tyh Murphy and Trent Dierick, along with Plantation Diggers all-rounder Damon Rootes, in the Northern NSW Emu Colts under-21 team to tour New Zealand.

Rootes captained the Coffs Harbour District XI to success in the McDonald's Country Cup and put off an opportunity to play in Ireland so he could make the tour and fulfil commitments in Australia.

Emus publicist Terry Browne said the team would be coached by former

first- class batsman Peter Clifford.

"Over 60 years of

friendly rivalry will accompany the Emus on their tour of Canterbury

and surrounding districts

on the South Island," Browne said.

"The touring party of 12 players departs on January 3 and will return tired on January 16 after seven matches," he said.

"The Emu Club is still adding to the quality of cricket around the state by providing touring oppor- tunities for players who may choose either to try the capital cities or stay in the bush. …
