Olympic Showjumping Hopes for Goodwin Brothers Are on Hold

EQUESTRIAN: The Olympic dreams of Warwick showjumper David Goodwin are on hold after his horse Warrego Jericho went lame in Germany.

Last year, Goodwin and Warrego Jericho were on the short list for the World Equestrian Games in Normandy, France, but narrowly missed selection in the final team of five.

He was then eyeing off the Olympics next year in Rio de Janeiro but a lame horse has ended those dreams.

David is now based at Bunbury, Western Australia, the hometown of girl friend and World Cup showjumper Maddi Stephen.

He is doing a lot of coaching and has started four young horses in showjumping.

David is hoping to have horses up to World Cup standard in three to five years. If Jericho comes good, David will be back in Germany to ride him on the European circuit.

Warrego Jericho is still in Germany and recuperating at the stables of Irish showjumper Denis Lynch.

David has already trained with Lynch in Germany.

His older brother Robert is still based in Dayboro and has had six months off due to a shoulder injury. …
