Toys and Gifts Lift Spirits of Battlers for Christmas

CHRISTMAS is the favourite time of year for many children.

With plenty of sweets going around, non-stop carols playing and a barrage of presents, why wouldn't it be?

However, for struggling families, December can be one of the toughest months to get through.

Kym Tuuta, from Leichhardt One Mile Community Centre, said this was why struggling parents around Ipswich were thrilled to receive brand new gifts donated by staff from Ipswich City Council.

"This is the 10th year staff have donated and it's just overwhelming," she said.

"Each year, we donate the toys to families in need and this year the donation was massive. We literally filled a 14-seater bus with toys. Every year keeps getting bigger."

Ms Tuuta said the toys were shared among 50 families who now have something to put under their trees come Friday morning.

"The gifts have all been given to struggling parents, the disadvantaged and refugees who are new to Australia," she said. …
