A PASTOR has been jailed for 25 years after carrying out a string of sex attacks on girls as young as six over more than three decades.

Melton Hamilton, 66, of South Norwood, was a pastor at the United Pentecostal Church in Streatham but claimed in court to be a bishop.

He raped one of his victims in the men's lavatory of the church during services. Another had a gun shoved into her mouth in an attempt to prevent her reporting the abuse she had suffered. His "credentials of ordination" were issued by the Faith Miracle Temple church of Toronto, a court heard. He was convicted at Inner London crown court last month of 25 charges, including rape and indecent assault, on five girls all under 14. The abuse began in 1980 and continued until 2013.

Sentencing, Judge Nic Madge told Hamilton: "There is no doubt that you are a dangerous and manipulative predatory paedophile. You are all the more dangerous because of the way in which, as a pastor and bishop, you concealed your offending behaviour behind a cloak of respectability. …
