LOCAL baseball legend's Geoff Baxter's first Major League session at age 12did not start well.

He was struck out by a local pitcher three times in a row.

The baptism of fire began an impressive contribution to local baseball in a career over five decades.

Baxter first played softball for Lismore Heights Primary at age six, before graduating to baseball at Richmond River High.

Now 61, he still suits up for Norths in Division 3 as stand-by catcher.

From helping make Baxter Field the world-class facility it is today, to playing, coaching, and keeping the local spirit of baseball thriving, Baxter has done it all.

He has coached and played every grade at every level of baseball, not only

for Norths, but also Far North Coast, and has achieved grand final wins

in all.

He has a Far North Coast record in playing in 35 consecutive grand finals and has participated in 47 in his 54-year career. …
