Police Chase Ute Driven Erratically

THERE were dramatic scenes across Gladstone with police having to call off an early morning Boxing Day pursuit of a black ute.

The driver of the black Holden continued to drive erratically despite losing two tyres and a full metal rim off the front.

The rim was left in the centre of Glenlyon Rd.

As sparks flew off the ute's steel rim, scared drivers at 8.30am on Saturday called Triple 0 with the ute at times veering onto the incorrect side of the Dawson Highway and Glenlyon Rd.

The ute hit the roundabout at the Penda Ave intersection.

A Police Ford Territory and the ute were briefly nose to nose and the ute grazed the front of the police vehicle before fleeing.

After calling off their pursuit Gladstone police officers tracked the ute's erratic route by the marks in the road bitumen - caused by the bare steel rim and axle metal grinding the road.

Shredded tyre rubber and a total tread from the rear wheel was left in a centre traffic island along Kirkwood Rd. …
