WHEN you look at some of the final prices at the Magic Millions sales on the Gold Coast this week, you can't help but resign yourself to needing a lot of money to land a good race horse.

I am like many who would love to own a quality race horse.

I haven't dipped my toe in ownership yet as the credit card and mortgage repayments make it hard to save up for a share in a nag but it is definitely something I would love to get into one day.

Looking at the sales prices on the Gold Coast this week makes that dream seem further away.

I am hardly flushed with money so unless I win Lotto I don't think I will ever be one of the high rollers at the Magic Millions Yearling Sales.

One yearling fetched $1 million at the Gold Coast yesterday while there are also plenty of potential track stars fetching six figures.

But all is not lost for the hobby owner.

There is still the odd bargain success story out there.

Toowoomba runner Jumbo Prince will contest the $1 million Magic Millions Trophy Stayers Cup (1800m) on Saturday and he can win 75 times the amount of his sale price if he can beat home the rest of the field. …
