Horak's Epic Trip Is Over

SAILING: Mackay sailor Nicolette Horak is back on shore after almost three months competing in the Clipper Round The World Yacht Race.

Horak finished her part of the journey in Airlie Beach on Sunday morning.

"It's wonderful to be back," she said.

"It was a long trip getting here."

Horak left from Cape Town, South Africa on October 31 on the South African team's yacht, IchorCoal.

She sailed to Albany in Western Australia, then onto Sydney. The next leg of the race was the Sydney to Hobart and then from Hobart to Airlie Beach.

Horak's team came into Airlie Beach in sixth place, the stop is the halfway point of the round the world race.

"The journey has had its ups and downs," she admitted.

"It's had its highlights and its low points. The crew have been absolutely amazing, I've just had so much fun and made some really good friends."

Horak is an experienced sailor and has sailed in the region's waters extensively. …
