GRAFTON based Mindfulness Coach John Shearer said he is expecting to extend his reach in 2016 as he looks to give teachers the skills to become minduflness mentors.

Mr Shearer said he had approached the State Government in the hope of introducing mindfulness into local schools as well as State education institutions.

"It has been a stepping stone for me," he said. "Last year I started an organisation called mindfullyMAD.org and it is a place where you will find a mindfulness mentor in any capital in Australia - and in fact around the world. It is growing already.

"This year my focus is on mindful teaching. Teaching teachers how to teach mindfulness to their pupils because I see that as the way forward."

Mr Shearer believes mindfulness will be able to alter the way in which students interact with each other, their surroundings and themselves in an effort to better their mental state.

"Mindfulness is already proven to be a very, very effective way of being calm, being nice to people, all those sorts of things.

"Mindfulness is a great way to teach kids how to think - not what to think, there is a big difference. …
