WHEN Michelle Lam moved to Gracemere, she assumed there wouldn't be an issue connecting to the internet.

But after roughly a month of calling Telstra, Michelle said she was told on Tuesday it could be up to a year before she can jump online from home.

Late yesterday, Telstra told The Morning Bulletin the company was completing upgrades which would increase available ports in Gracemere "in the coming weeks".

Michelle relocated to the region from Brisbane for a new job and said she loved the area, but was frustrated with the lack of connectivity.

She said the previous tenant of her home was able to access the internet, but Telstra told her there were no ports available in her area. Michelle said she planned to do a Masters degree, but needed a stable internet connection to complete the distance education course and could not continue to use Wi-Fi from another service provider costing $10 a gigabyte. …
