Eagles Aim to Put Their Stamp on Game Early; BASKETBALL

JOE Chapman says the Newcastle Eagles are ready for a "battle of wills" in Sunday's BBL Cup final against Leicester Riders.

In the last four years, the two teams have won 13 of the available 16 trophies between them. Both Eagles player-coach Fab Flournoy and Riders boss Rob Paternostro have assembled strong squads to fit their style of basketball, with defence a priority for both.

There is an expectation that Sunday's final in Birmingham could be a cagey affair, with both teams looking to get their hands on the silverware.

If the Eagles are to be successful, Chapman believes they will have to put their stamp on the game early.

He said: "We're both (ranked) one and two on defence so we have to take each other out of our comfort zones because that's the way you win games - by getting other teams to do things that they don't want to do.

"It's going to be important and it's going to be a battle of wills, we haven't played each other so we don't know what kind of game it's going to be. …
