THE Australia Day tradition of backyard cricket will come to the fore at Yaralla Cricket Club.

President Mick Silvester said the Double Wicket Cricket fun competition was limited to 16 teams at $40 per team of two.

He added the day will include a BBQ lunch with prizes and other unique competitions such as crab races.

It is unique form of cricket based on an elimination format.

"The teams are of two people so obviously the aim is to get 16 teams and 32 players," Silvester said.

"Each team faces four overs and it doesn't matter how many balls a batsmen faces. And the aim is obviously to get as many runs as you can and normal cricket rules apply except there is no leg before wicket. …
