Jacksonville police are searching for the father of a missing baby who investigators presume is dead.

Nehemiah Omari Weedon, was a year old when last seen alive in October 2014.

He was living with his two older siblings and their homeless father, Dwayne Curtis Weedon, 29, at the Sulzbacher Center, said Chief Tom Hackney of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

At that time, Weedon told a caseworker at the center that he was having trouble caring for Nehemiah, and he'd made arrangements for the baby to live with a family member out of state.

In December that year, Weedon was asked to leave the center because of behavior issues.

He left the center with the two older children, and turned them over to their mother, Kristin Branch.

Detectives over the past few days uncovered information indicating Nehemiah is dead, Hackney said Sunday night.

"We strongly believe little Nehemiah is deceased and he is deceased from unknown reasons," Hackney said.

Hackney said police believe the boy died in October 2014 about the time Weedon said he was giving the child to a family member.

"This is still a very active, very fluid case, and I don't want to jeopardize any aspects of what we're doing and what we're working on now with providing over-details to the public," he said.

The Sheriff's Office has been searching for Weedon but been unable to locate or contact him.

However, detectives believe he still might be in the Jacksonville area, Hackney said.

Branch, 26, last had contact with Weedon - by telephone - on Dec. 21, 2015. Weedon has numerous relatives living in various states but the ones contacted by the Sheriff's Office do not know where he or the baby are.

The Sheriff's Office is seeking help from the public locating Weedon, who also is wanted on warrants charging him with credit card fraud and dealing in stolen property, Hackney said. …
